Journey to the perfect dress

Some of you may be wondering why is Brian always the one writing on the blog? Well folks, there’s the one main reason for that, Brian is a senior in college, and is enjoying his senior slide! Now I know he's work hard for it but really it's so not fair!
I'm a sophomore in college tackling my first 18 credit semester, starting a new on campus job, planning a wedding and working 8 to 10 hours a week in schools. The only reason why I have time to write today is because I've had a 100 degree fever and have been confined to my bed most of the day.
Brian just posted a little while ago about wedding planning and I wanted to add in my two cents about my favorite part of every wedding: THE DRESS! Every little girl dreams of her wedding day and what her wedding gown will look like and dreams of who the guy standing at the end of the isle will be. For a while now I've know who the man standing at the end of the isle would be and I've been anxiously awaiting the time when I'll be his wife. And I thought I had the dress figured out as well, but then the time comes to actually try dresses on. You see one across the room bright white and puffy the dress you've always pictured yourself, you can't wait to try it on and see yourself in it. Your in it and feel like a princess, but then you see yourself in the mirror and...oh my can you say CUPCAKE! You've never seen a more hideous dress on you, your Cinderella dream dress hopes are crushed, or at least mine where considering I'm only five foot two. After this experience I set out on my long journey to find my perfect dress! Here are some tips I learned in finding my perfect dress:
1. Have a style in mind but learn to let it go if need be.
2. Do some research on what dress looks good on your body type:
  • An A-line dress has no marked distinct waist and flows from the shoulders down to a flared skirt, creating a "A" shape. If you carry a lot of your weight in the middle, this is a great style for you. This type in my opinion looks great on everyone.
  • Ballgowns or as I like to call them, Cinderella dresses is a gown where the top is fitted with a very full skirt. The skirt of a ball gown can hide large hips.
  • Empire waistline dresses has a high waist that starts just below a fitted bust line and falls with a slight flare, the skirt style can be many different ways. This style is very flattering if one has smaller busts
This dress was a very pretty trumpet style dress, but a little too modern for my taste

  • Mermaid style is VERY form fitting this style of gowns hugs the body rather tightly all the way down to your knees, where the dress flares out, kind of resembling the shape of a mermaid. This dress is good for any woman who is confident showing off her curves
This is a sheath dress, it had lace underneath with a sheer cover, it was beautiful and light
  • Sheath style or also referred to as a column dress is a dress that falls nearly straight down from the neckline to the hem. Can look good on many body types depending on the fabric.
Loved the sweet heart neckline but the skirt of the dress was too busy

Remember how I said know your style and body type, this was another prime example. I thought this was the type of dress I'd end up getting but it does not flatter my body type at all.

3. Be familiar with other things such as fabric types you like, necklines you like, and veil types if you are desiring to wear a veil
4. Always book an appointment, this was something I was unaware of. Making an appointment is the only way to be sure that you'll get a full hour of undivided attention, otherwise your experience might be an unpleasant one (yes, there is a story there).
5. Take make sure the group you go with are the people you really want there. I went once with my MOH Morgan and she was amazing she knows me so well and can tell if I'm only trying to please people take a friend that will make you be honest. For me the person I really needed to be there was my Dad, once he was there it seemed as if everything fell into place.
6. Don't stress about it! You'll find the perfect wedding dress for you!

To finish my story of finding my perfect dress I went home to look at wedding dresses and Brian and I met my dad to grab a cup of coffee quick the parking lot was packed and I was wondering what in the world was going on! The bridal shop next door was having a HUGE sale, there where girls waiting two hours to try on dresses, I thought I have got to do this! I didn't have to wait to hours but I did have to navigate my way around a packed store! I picked out a few that I liked but then I spotted it from across the room, my dream dress! It was exactly what I had been picturing in my mind! I tried in on and that was it! I tried on a few others just to be sure but nothing compared to MY dress! My dad and I both teared up (we're such saps) I told the sales lady this was my dress and we started filling out the paper work to order it. I was walking on clouds the rest of the day! I would show you pictures but Brian can't see it until the wedding so I guess you'll have to wait until August with him to see it!
