Kacie has a niece named Natalie. She is adorable. She's at the age where she is starting to comprehend things and what they mean, such as her mother telling her, "Your Auntie Kacie and Uncle Brian are going to take you to the zoo today!"
When we pulled up to her house on time she had been waiting for us for
twenty minutes or so with her shoes on and her car seat ready to go. (Her mom asked her what color Uncle Brian's car was and she couldn't remember, but said, "I bet it's pink!") She started carrying the car seat towards us (it weighs as much as she does). I called out, "Natalie, do you want me to help you with that?" and she responded, "Yesth! It's too heavy for me."
When we got to the zoo we tried to go in but they were closed. The front desk lady told us, "There is a situation going on right now and we aren't allowing entrance until it is resolved." Very cryptic, very sinister. A cop walked past us towards the zoo, and then turns to the same lady and says, "Where do I go?" When she hesitated for a split second he snaps at her, "Where's the loose buffalo?"
That's right. A buffalo escaped and prevented us from going to the zoo. We explained to Natalie that the zoo was locked for a while and that we were going to go play at the park for a while. She was heart broken. She walked with us dragging her feet in depression, we could see the water works coming, tears were on the horizon.
Then we got in view of the park and swinging became the top priority. I pushed her on the swing for quite a while and then we ran around the park for about two hours. Little kids are great in that way, as long as they can play they're happy.
A little before we left the park Natalie turns to us and says, "I won't tell my mom the zoo was locked today." I'm not sure where the comment came from, if she was worried her mom would be upset with us for not actually taking her to the zoo or if she was hoping to get to come again. Either way, I was glad Natalie had my back on that one.
