We promised you stories of adventures and excitement over spring break, and adventures and excitement we've had!
We got back to our home town and stopped by my parents house to eat dinner with them. We had a great time catching up and chowing down on tempe (a meat substitute) and veggies (If you don't know, my parents are very, very healthy). Afterwards, we headed to Kacie's house.
My family is paranoid level secure. We lock all of our doors every time we leave, our house we lock the doors. Kacie's family is much more midwestern in that they usually leave their doors unlocked. This weekend Kacie's dad was on a vacation. When we got to her house and tried the front door. "No problem" we told ourselves. "We'll just go through the garage." Kacie's house has a pad to enter a code in that opens the garage door. She started typing in the code and then went to hit "ENTER".
And there was no enter key. The button had literally fallen out leaving the contacts exposed. We talked about trying to bridge the connection with a paper clip or something but to no avail. She was securely locked out.
Kacie has two siblings in town and we called them both. Neither of them could find a spare key. So at about 10:15 at night we drove over to her oldest brother's house for her to spend the night.
Her oldest brother is married with two kids, Natalie (4) and Eli (1.5). When we arrived Eli was already in bed, but Natalie was running around causing trouble. When we came in she got very shy and looked at us. Jill (her mother) tried to get her to go to Kacie. It took her several minutes to get up the courage to give Kacie a "lean against you and sort of raise one arm" hug. Jill then pointed to me and said, "Give Brian a hug too." Natalie leaped across the floor and yelled, "Brian!" Giving me a big hug. Made the entire evening of driving around and getting locked out of a house worth it for me.
