Sci Fi: Round three!

I like Star Trek (I realize my geek is showing again). I realize it's cheesy, I realize the acting is horrible, I realize the props and costumes are cheap. There's just something about stories that build characters while traveling around the galaxy and exploring new worlds (Judge me if you need to :)).

There have been two key mistakes I made in my relationships relating to Sci Fi:

1. I had her watch Avatar.

Before I get ganged up on, think about watching that movie from the perspective of someone who isn't impressed by special effects and creative flying gun ships. That's really all there was in the movie, so if those don't do it for you, it's bad. I think I paid for this movie in 7 or 8 chickflicks.

2. I had her watch Star Trek: Balance of Terror
This is one of my favorite episodes. If you know much about Romulans (and who doesn't? I mean, really) it's very interesting. If you don't know much about Romulans, it's horrible. If I'm honest, most of the scenes look about like the picture I have here:

I wish I could say, "But the dialog is awesome!"....but it's really not. In all honest, the only way you'll enjoy this episode of Star Trek is if you are a dedicated fan (like me) and are possibly too young to spot bad television the first time you watch it (Like I was). I definitely paid for this one in at least three chickflicks.

Know that at three Sci Fi strikes I was out, I decided to choose my third attempt very, very carefully. I scoured high and low for the perfect episode and finally found one I knew was a winner. Kacie is at least a little interested in genetics. More so towards the morality and ethics of it than the hard core "Let's unzip a double helix" typed stuff, but still interested. I found a Star Trek episode that dealt with the probable causes of genetic enhancement from the perspective of someone who had been enhanced this way.

I expected it to cost me three chickflicks and no sci fi with Kacie for a month. But surprise, surprise, she liked it! I was shocked and floored. I'm sure half of you are cheering and half of you are crying (Maybe less than half of you are cheering).

So, I will be trying to select my next sci fi adventure very carefully! I think I still only have one strike left.
